Understanding the Underworld

I am writing this to clarify what the Underworld is in my experience.  If you have other ideas feel free to comment, remember to always be respectful.

Renee LeBeau: The Underworld is a place of unconsciousness, dis-associated and fragmented aspects of self. It is used to mean many other things especially through a religious context.
There are many visions of the Underworld that are available through every major religion and culture. Called by many names, Sheol, Hell, Inferno, Hades, Xibalba, just to name a few, the Underworld is part of the human collective unconscious. Its descriptions range from a burning land of torture to an alternate reality for the dead where both rewards and punishment are meted out. For many the Underworld is simply the farthest one can be from God, home to demons and the soulless.

The Underworld is a place of the unconscious. It is a place where we store the darker, less acceptable pieces of our Selves. Who or What labels us ‘dark’ or ‘unacceptable’? Society tells us what masks to wear and how to act to be accepted. Family members, lovers, people in authority may label versions of us ‘unworthy’ during our lifetimes. These parts of our Selves we push away and deny and ultimately condemn to the Underworld.

The Underworld in my experience is also a place which exists in another dimension. I dare say it is a dimension of its own. There are portals where this dimension bleeds through to our own, some of these portals are fixed, a few are manually created and opened for a period of time, while others fluctuate. These are portals to our reality, our dimension. These portals allow us to energetically enter the Underworld and conversely allow the dwellers of the Underworld to cross over to our dimension. We know them as demons primarily. Their ability to manifest [or become visible, or effect physical objects] is dependent upon their inherent power, proximity to the portal and the sustenance they can find.

What is an Exorcism?

In my vocabulary I use the term exorcism only when removing a demon from a person or location. I call it a clearing when dealing with ghosts and other energies. A demon is an entity that has never been human and feeds on emotions such as fear and anxiety.

In my experience you do not have to believe in demons to suffer a possession. Some of the things that make people susceptible are: physical trauma, any type of abuse that alters a persons perception of self, drinking, smoking and drug ingestion of any kind that alters one's energy and/or thought processes. I have also seen possession due to a karmic agreement by the person or a parent. Everyone is susceptible to a certain extent - know anyone who undergoes a drastic personality change when they drink? Then can't remember their actions right away? It's more a matter of knowing your own Self and acknowledging when something isn't right. Quickly recognizing a stray emotion or negative thought gives you the power to refute it.

I find that people who engage in the type of religions that teach a lack of self worth are feeding grounds for these negative entities. The Bible [Jesus specifically] preaches to love ourselves, so any church telling us how wicked and undeserving we are directly opposes the gospel. Letter of Paul to the Romans is full of warnings against such preaching pretending to be from God. Especially Romans 16: 17. I'm not going too far into that. I have a Bible Study on Blog Talk Radio you can refer to if you are interested. Demons are not church specific or faith specific, however they will manifest in a way particular to the victim. Be strong in who you are, your faith and be joyful - demons hate that!

Where do you suggest an individual go if they are looking for someone to perform an exorcism? Do most exorcisms require more than one person?

I would recommend finding someone who makes you feel deeply at peace when you speak to them. They should also try to rule out mental illness or other causes for your woes.

I was raised Catholic and I know that Catholic exorcisms are rarely performed. And honestly, a full blown exorcism is seldom needed.

How many people participate depends on the situation. I have done them alone with the subject or have had the family who is effected involved at other times. The key is that if it is a person who is infected, they need to truly want to be cleared and the must have faith that God will deliver them. Sometimes this is accomplished in the course of the work.

Some take weeks where others take only an hour. Every situation is different.
Make sure whoever you hire is compassionate and not just flaming your fear to make as much money from you as possible.

They should know what to do with the entity once they remove it so it doesn't come back. They should instruct the subject to fortify their connection with God and their protection to ensure against a relapse. Family members and those close to the subject should also be protected during and after the ritual.

What is a Ghost?

One of the most frequently asked questions of psychics and mediums is "What is a ghost?" A ghost is a person’s soul that is caught between our world and the next dimension with no physical body. These are sometimes confused with Spirits, Emotional Imprints and other phenomenon.

In my experience, a ghost usually is convinced that it is still alive. Can you imagine the trauma of waking up one day to find that no one can hear you or see you? You can no longer effect things the way you used to. It usually takes time for them to figure out what they can affect. Movies such as "The Sixth Sense" and "Ghost" are fairly accurate portrayals of a ghost’s existence.

There are many reasons why a soul may become trapped. The number one reason I’ve encountered is FEAR. Fear of going to hell. Fear of the unknown. Fear of leaving loved ones without guidance. Just plain fear. Anxiety is another variation on fear that strongly binds a soul to the Earth plane. Anger can also bind a soul. Anger is a wound trying to defend itself. The worst tether to this plane is a loved one who refuses to let go. This often is not permanent, but delays the soul’s departure.

A ghost has no notion of time anymore. I believe this is partially for self preservation because once a ghost is around longer than a normal life span it becomes harder to deny their condition. Along the same lines is the myth that a ghost cannot leave certain parameters. It chooses to exist in a smaller area because it can remain comfortable there. It’s much easier to deal with the new elements in a single room than with the monumental changes occurring outside. Think about how different the landscape is in just the last twenty years.

In my experience, a ghost will retain a fair amount of that life’s memories. A ghost cannot foresee the future however and has the same limits in intelligence it had when in physical form. A ghost is simply a person without a body.

The emotional body of a ghost is very strong. In fact the primary way to discern if you are dealing with a ghost vs. a spirit that has crossed over or another non-physical life form is through emotion. When a ghost is near or trying to communicate with you generally the first indicator is strong emotion. This is usually fear, anger, anxiety or grief. The trick is to be aware of where in your body you feel this. A ghost will activate the third eye – the emotion feels like pressure between your eyes and is usually very intense.

Most people can sense ghosts, they just don’t understand how to discern whether an emotion is coming from inside them or from outside. Most people just assume that emotions must be generated from inside themselves. Becoming more aware of your body and how it reacts to different emotions is the first step to discovering your intuition.
